APRIL MEETING AND OTHER STUFF

Hey folks,

First things first, this is your friendly reminder that the April meeting
of the Delmarva United Homebrewers will be taking place this coming
Thursday, April 11th. We'll be meeting in the upstairs dining room at
Dogfish Head, with things getting rolling around 7pm. Bring samples of your
latest creations, if you have any to share, also make sure you bring along
your $1 club donation. It's pizza night at the pub, so come on in for
dinner and the meeting.

Another event going on this week is Delaware Beer Week at the Pickled Pig
Pub. Monday, April 8th they are featuring Delaware Homebrewers - so if you
have some beer that you would like folks to try, bring it on over to The
Pickled Pig at 6pm. Several of our members are already signed-up, if you
are interested just drop me a note or show up!

Next on the list is the rescheduled DUH Chili Cookoff.....the date is
Saturday, April 13th. The event will be held (as always) at John & Linda
Novosel's Shipwreck Brewery in Lewes. Happy hour starts at 5pm and chili
tasting starts 'promptly' at 7pm. If you've never attended before, here's
how it works....

Bring a crockpot of your best chili (and a spoon to ladle it out with), and
just like the DUH-Throwdown, vote for your 3 favorite chilis. The results
are then tabulated and the top three chilis usually walk away with prizes
and the winner gets their name 'engraved' on the coveted Pink Pig Trophy.
Bringing chili is not required to attend, and appetizers are always
appreciated. Feel free to bring any samples of your latest libations to
share as well. Here is the important information:

John & Linda Novosel
32043 Conleys Chapel Rd.
Lewes, DE
302-947-2999

Next up: Saturday, May 4th Jess & Terry will be hosting the DUH BIG BREW
Day and National Homebrewing Celebration Day at Jester Acres in Ellendale.
More details will follow, but if you are interested in brewing or helping
others brew that day - let me know. Just like last year, after the brewing,
we'll do the eating and drinking thing :-)

Any questions about any of this, feel free to drop me a note and I'll do my
best not to screw up the answer.

Cheers,
Terry

February Meeting Update

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to remind everyone about the Delmarva United Homebrewers meeting and Throwdown that will be happening this coming Thursday, February 21st. The events will be taking place at Dogfish Head in Rehoboth. The Throwdown will start around 7:15pm in the upstairs dining room. As an added bonus, Jason Weissberg from the pub has invited our group to sample some brats/sausages. I've included that information at the bottom of this note. First, information about the Throwdown. The ThrowDown is a club competition where everyone at the meeting judges the entries and votes for their 3 favorites. The results are then scientifically tabulated and the winners announced and awarded prizes. We have gift certificates from Xtreme Brewing and 5-Star Products for the winning entries. How do you enter? Here are the simple rules:

IMPORTANT: Entry Fee: $5 (does not include $1 meeting donation)

Rules:

1. One entry per household

2. Entries accepted starting at 6:45pm upstairs at Dogfish Head (20 entry maximum, 1st come, 1st entered)

(If you're late or never made it past the bar downstairs - see rule 4...entries stop at 7:15pm)

3. Bring AT LEAST four 12oz. bottles or two 22oz. bombers or one 1/2 gallon growler. Any labels will obliterated.

4. No complaining. No recounts. No alliances. Contest officials accept bribes but they'll do you no good.

In addition to the prize packages for the winning brewers, we will be doing door prizes for everyone in attendance. Xtreme Brewing, Henlopen City Oyster House, The Pickled Pig Pub and 5-Star Products have generously donated some additional goodies for us to giveaway during this event. When you offer your $1 meeting donation, you will be given a raffle ticket which cements your entry into the prize pool.

....And now this from Jason Weissberg at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats

The pub is looking to add some beer inspired sausages to our upcoming menu. We have six different varieties to taste and try before we make a decision on the best flavor combination. Who better to decide on the best tasting sausage but beer lovers and nobody loves beer more than DUH. I would like to invite you all to help us taste and decide which flavor combinations work best. Your feedback is really important. The tasting is of course free and will be happening on Thursday February 21, before your competition. The tasting will be set up and ready to go at 5:30PM until the competition begins. Thank you in advance for your help and look forward to seeing you all Thursday night.

Cheers and Thank you,

Jason

Hope to see everyone on Thursday!

February Meeting Information

Hey Folks,

Just wanted to get this short reminder out to all of the members of the Delmarva United Homebrewers (DUH) about the change-of-date for the February meeting, and information about the 'ThrowDown' that will be taking place at the February meeting.

The February meeting which would normally take place on the 2nd Thursday of the month, has been moved to the 3rd Thursday for February to accommodate all of you sappy romantics that want to celebrate Valentine's Day. What this means is the meeting will not be held on February 14th, but will instead be held on Thursday, February 21st at 7pm at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats. To make up for this inconvenience, we will be hosting the 2nd DUH ThrowDown Competition. What the hell is that? Read on....

Why are we doing all of this? Read on...

The National Homebrewers Conference is taking place in Philadelphia in late June. DUH will be pouring beer at a huge Friday night event called 'Club Night' (catchy name, eh?). We are going to use funds raised from this Throwdown and hopefully another one in May to cover some costs that are going to be incurred during this event. If you are interested in brewing beer for the event, Lori Brown has created this snazzy document to assist us in getting our act together.

The link for DUH's brewing efforts for the NHC Club-night can be found here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0Aj6Cuknn68JXdDQyLUVpU3A4WjMtR2VtVlVsMDlsSmc&usp=sharingthis

We will be using this spreadsheet to track what beverages everyone is planning to donate for DUH's booth at club night. Anybody with this link can edit, so if you know you're brewing for DUH, please open it up and fill in your info. Please enter the date you expect it to be ready and use one line per beer. Xtreme Brewing has generously donated 20 corny kegs for members to fill with fermented goodies for this conference. If you want to brew a beer for the event and need a keg, contact myself or Jimmy and we'll coordinate a drop-off. If you are coming to any of the regular club meetings between now and May (or whenever we run out of kegs), we can bring them to the meeting as well (including the February meeting). If you are planning to brew for the conference, please be realistic in your abilities to deliver the beer as promised. If you commit to brewing 55 gallons of Russian Imperial Stout - make sure you brew 55 gallons of Imperial Stout :-)

I think that's all for now. Hope to see everyone at the ThrowDown on February 21st. If you have any further questions, or want me to bring any empty kegs to the meeting, just drop me a note.

Cheers,

Terry

Homebrewers will be taking place this coming Thursday, December 13th. We'll
be meeting in the upstairs dining room at Dogfish Head in Rehoboth, with
things getting started around 7pm.

Topics for discussion are the upcoming homebrewers conference in June,
which is taking place in Philadelphia this year. We will also be discussing
an upcoming club competition, which will take place at the February meeting.
It's inexpensive pizza night at the pub, so come on in for dinner. As
always, feel free to bring samples of your latest fermented creations -
although that is not necessary to attend. The only thing that is necessary
is $1 per person attending.

Hope to see everyone there on Thursday, and Happy Holidays to everyone and

MAY 10th DUH THROWDOWN AT DOGFISH HEAD

OK FOLKS!

Here are the details for the Thursday, May 10th meeting of the Delmarva United Homebrewers. We are holding the 'DUH Throwdown' at this meeting. What the hell is that? It will be a simple beer judging competition, with a MAXIMUM of 15 entries. Everyone present for the meeting will be a judge, and will vote for the 3 beers they enjoyed the most. After all the ciphering and tallying is done, the beers with the most votes win. As always, there is fine print and details......

Rules:

1. You must pay your meeting dues before you can enter.

2. One entry per brewing team (or household in most cases)

3. You must be present to enter. No third-party entries will be accepted.

4. Entries will be accepted in the upstairs dining room at Dogfish Head from 6:45pm - 7:15pm.*

* If there is an over-abundance of people with entries, we will institute a lottery system to determine who gets to enter their beer.

5. Bring at least FOUR 12oz. bottles or TWO 22oz./750ml bombers, or ONE growler. Remove any labels and black out caps, or any identifying marks.

6. If your entry needs to be served cold - bring it cold. Also, bring a very brief description of style or special ingredients or processes used.

Now, onto specifics of the evening......The crew from Brewing TV will be joining us for this meeting and have provided us with some awesome prizes to reward the winning brewers, as well as everyone who comes to the meeting. What are they? Well, to start, Dogfish Head and Brewing TV/Northern Brewer are putting out a spread of food for everyone to enjoy. Along with that, we have a pile of door-prizes to give away courtesy of Northern Brewer. The winning brewers will receive gift certificates from Northern Brewer:

1st place: $100 gift certificate

2nd place: $75 gift certificate

3rd place: $50 gift certificate

Here is how the evening is going to run.....

6:45 - doors open to the upstairs dining room. At the top of the stairs, Jess and Lori will gladly accept your meeting dues ($1, as always), and give you your door-prize ticket, as well as your voting ballot. DO NOT LOSE IT, because you only get one. If you have a beer to enter in the competition, you will then proceed to the registration table. Jim and Terry will confirm that you have paid by taking a peek at your door-prize ticket, and then will register your beer for the competition.

7:15 - Competition registration ends!

7:30 - Judging begins

8:30 - Judging ends. All ballots must be turned in by 8:30!

9:00 - Results will be announced, and prizes awarded.

Throughout all of this, we will hold door-prize drawings and the buffet of food and brewfett of beer will be available. Just like a normal meeting, feel free to bring samples of your latest fermented creations to share. We will have a table set-up for any beers that are not in the competition - our usual Brewfett.

So, that's the skinny on how this is going to go down at the throwdown. Looking forward to seeing everyone on Thursday Night! If you have any questions, feel free to drop me a note and I'll do my best to get an answer.

Peace-OUT!

Dead Terry

BIG BREW DAY - MAY 5th

Just wanted to remind everyone about the BIG BREW DAY celebration happening this Saturday, May 5th. Brewing will start around 11am, we'll have some snacks and munchies - followed by a smoked-pork fiesta when brewing is done (around 4pm). If you are interested in brewing for the event, let me know or just show up at 11am. If you can't make it for the brewing-fest, come on by whenever you can - we'll be celebrating into the evening.

Feel free to bring a dish to share and any beverages (fermented or otherwise) that you want folks to sample. We have 2 beers on-tap and a keg of cider that I fear is on the verge of kicking - but we have some bottles to share as well as margaritas for Cinco de Mayo. Someone else can bring the Mint Juleps for the Kentucky Derby.
If you have any questions, need the address or directions, don't hesitate to contact us at D_U_H@comcast.net . Hope to see everyone this Saturday!

April Brew Club Meeting

Just to remind everyone, the April meeting of the Delmarva United

Homebrewers is this coming Thursday, April 12th. We will be meeting in the

upstairs dining room of Dogfish Head in Rehoboth Beach. Things will get

rolling around 7pm.

Bring your latest fermented creations for folks to sample - but it's not

required to attend. The only thing we ask for is a $1 donation per person.

Topics for discussion will be the upcoming May 5th American Homebrewers

Association's BIG BREW DAY at Jester Acres, and hopefully some details on

our May 10th meeting - which a crew from Brewing TV will be attending.

It is still Pizza Night at Dogfish, come on in for dinner - yes, we have a

server upstairs - and stay for the meeting and the fun. Speaking of

meetings, the summer schedule is 'almost' completely set. For those new to

the club, since Rehoboth Beach has these evil devices called 'Parking

Meters' in effect during the summer months, and Dogfish Head is typically

completely crowded with visitors - we hold the June, July, August &

September meetings at different member's houses. The schedule for this year

(as of now):

June: Lori Brown & Jim Kroon's in fabulous Felton

July: Patti & Doug Griffith's in marvelous Millsboro

August: Krissy Shaw & Matt Patton's in lovely Lewes

September: tba (who wants it?)

That's it for now. Hope to see everyone on Thursday!

Cheers,

Terry

AUGUST MEETING

A quick reminder for those who did not receive the email.....the August Meeting will be at Sarah & Mike Reese's house in Millsboro this Thursday (August 11th), with things starting around 6pm.
The usual deal, bring something to share if you feel like it or just come out and enjoy the evening. If you need directions, or an address to get you there - drop me a note and I'll private message the information to you.

Hope to see everyone there!
