The March meeting will be on Thursday, March 10th. We'll be gathering at Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats in Rehoboth Beach. Things will get started in the upstairs dining room around 7pm. Feel free to bring samples of your latest creations, but it is not required to join in the fun. All we ask you to bring is a $1 donation.
Topics of discussion for this meeting are providing details about the upcoming 2011 Mad Brewer Competition, as well as updates on the Delaware State Fair competition. Remember, Thursdays are $6 pizza night at Dogfish Head, some come on in for dinner and the meeting. Hope to see everyone there.
Cheers,
Dead Terry

wow what a great meeting.my 3 freinds and i came to join your club last night.we drove 45mins we told you we were new and this was are first meeting. we paid are $1.00 dues and not even a thank you, or wellcome to the club nothng. it was like we didnt matter.it was like you didnt know us and you didnt care to no use. some club the only thing good i can say was art he recogonize me and came over to say hi.i dont know maybe my expectations were to hi maby we have to show up to 10 or 20 more meetings no i dont think even that would help.i was really hopeing to beable to find a brew club so we could talk to other brewers about beer. man was i so mislead......
The turnout for the March meeting was one of the largest of the year. Bummer that someone checking out the Club was put-off so badly. DUH is loosely formatted with little formal structure, I'm sure it can be difficult for members to feel welcome, especially with a bigger group as it was this particular meeting.
Give DUH another try, a buck doesn't buy much anymore so it's hard to say that the cost was a bad deal.
Sorry you didn't enjoy the evening. The meetings are what you make of it. It is a very social club, and mingling and introducing yourself to others is a normal practice. We have people flow in and out of gatherings throughout the year (seasonal visitors etc.), and the price to attend is extremely affordable, given the amount and quality of samples that are available. As far as talking to other folks about brewing - all you need to do is start talking to someone - and inevitably you'll end up talking to someone who has just started brewing, up to professional brewers who do it for a living. I would hope that you and your friends would give it another shot. You were not the only new-comers there - I spent a lot of time talking to several new people who all had an enjoyable evening. Perhaps you should have had Art introduce you to some of the folks attending. He has been a member of the club for over 10 years - and knew the majority of people at last nights meeting. Again, sorry you didn't get out of the meeting what you were expecting. There is another brew-club which meets in Wilmington - the First State Brewers - they run a much more structured club than ours. If you would like their contact information, I can get it for you.
Cheers,
Terry

well any meeting Ive ever been to would at least ask if their is anyone new. so people could be introduced and get the most out of it. your wife when collecting the dues didnt even say wellcome not knowing the struck-sure of your club and not being a mind reader, as far as your samples would you just walk in and start drinking someone Else's beer not knowing even if your allowed or what the procedure is. and then to suggest another club 2hrs away pretty piss poor pal.....i never said we didn't have a good time we made it one with out your beer or the club. all I'm saying you can do better
as far as another try hum mm
Perhaps you are right. Maybe we should implement a 'new faces' policy for each meeting.. I will bring it to Jim's attention - and will try to remember to do it at the April meeting.

Welcome to LSD, where you are in control of your own fortune, whether it be at your local brew club meeting, or trying to find a local roofer to patch some shingles.
As we are relative "newbies" to this club as well, I can appreciate your reaction, but we've been coming back every month, and every month, we feel more welcomed. Consider this like your first day at a new job, just feel it out, and figure out how to make it work for you, that is, if you are interested. Watch and learn, and figure out how you can fit into what already exists.
We too, thought the meetings would be more structured than they are, and even brought it to the attention of the Pres, and got an explanation. It has been tried, and failed. We have since learned to appreciate it for what it is.
Much like a first date, there is the initial "meet, greet, and qualify" period. Sorry, you didn't feel "greeted", but as the story goes, communication is a 2 way street, it takes 2 to tango, etc. Many of the club members have been members and homebrewers for quite some time and are very knowledgeable in many aspects of home brewing. Step up to the plate and just start talking to someone. If they don't know they answer, they will surely point you in the right direction.
It truly is what you make of it, no commitment required. You tried it once, it's up to you if you want to try it again. You now know what to expect, and if you want to give it another go, bring an open mind, get out there, and be social, as this is a social club.
Cheers!

P.S. Where else are you going to get the chance to try such a variety of homebrews for $1? You can't even buy a NA for that price!

thank you. see you their
It's true that DUH is more of a casual association of people sharing an interest in brewing and wine making than a structured club. Come as you are and bring what you got, if anything, is how the meetings work. There is no pressure to attend every meeting, or even more than one a year (lucky for me). The lack of structure allows one to sit quietly and sample the samples or talk the whole time about brewing or anything else. This atmosphere may be strange to some, but it is in no way meant to disrespect anyone. Terry's 'new faces' policy does sound like a good idea. Maybe even a quick rundown of the sampling procedure would be helpful to some. Those issues aside, I have found DUH to be a fun and welcoming group. Another try should be worth your time.
Well if you 4 go on vacation, I hope you don't sit in your hotel room and look outside and say it is sunny, but the hotel sucks. I know who you are, sitting at a table by your selves, waiting to be entertained, like sticks in the mud. Maybe you should try to looking at life better than your glass is half full. I seen that you were sucking the beers down right & left, didn't look like you were to upset. One thing we don't need in this brewclub is bad attitudes, so I suggest you try a full service pub closer to home. I didn't vote for Obama, so i'm not here to serve you.
kma this is how you wellcome new people how dont know your policy or thats next so we waited for something. not wanting to over step any bounderys so if you saw us sitting their why dident you come by and say hi why because your and ass hole thats right i thought clicks were for high school jerks not beer clubs i forgot about you......and as far as sucking down beer we were sucking down from down stairs its people like you that make it hard for anyone new to enjoy your club......................
as for my friends.they want to give it a nother shoot as for me no way why peolpe like you that think their above the rest
OK. Enough. Drop it.
Yea, what Terry said!
